Interactive tool - 20 top tips to have a safe, fun day at the beach
The partnership launched its first joint initiative, an online tool with 20 top tips to help beachgoers enjoy a safe, fun, healthy and relaxing day by the sea.
Malcolm Bell, Chairman of the BeachWise Forum and Chief Executive of Visit Cornwall, said: "All of our partner organisations, in one way or another, are involved in promoting and protecting our beaches and coastal waters and want to encourage residents and visitors to enjoy them in safety.
However, with so many different sources of useful information it's not always easy for people to know where to look it. We therefore joined forces to put all that information in one place, displayed in a fun and interactive way.
This is the first of hopefully many successful joint projects."
Alan Hyde, Head of Communications at South West Water, said: "This interactive, partnership-based service, which can be viewed on mobile or tablet devices, offers some great advice on how beach-goers can look after themselves and their families as they enjoy the region's fantastic beaches."
Cornwall Council cabinet member for environment and housing Joyce Duffin said: "I am delighted that partners have come together to provide this very useful and accessible resource for visitors and locals alike. There is so much information from each organisation and we all have a part to play in keeping the public informed on issues such as bathing water quality, beach safety and what to do in an emergency. It is vital that we all work together to help the public enjoy the beautiful coastline we have in Cornwall. By involving and sharing information from a range of organisations, we now have a colourful, fun and interactive resource."
Bruce Newport from the Environment Agency said: "The South West has over 200 fantastic beaches for the public to enjoy. Water quality has improved dramatically over the last two decades. This new local partnership and interactive graphic will help beach goers make the best of their visit."
The BeachWise partnership and interactive infographic were launched on 21 April 2016 on Porthtowan beach in Cornwall.
